Subject: Appeal for Support of the Citizen Bill “Robot Contribution” / “Mitchell Contribution”
Dear Mr Jeremy Corbyn,
For more than forty years (*a, *1b, *1c), I have devoted my reflection and civic engagement to an idea that I believe is essential for the future of our social model: the creation of a “Robot Contribution”, designed to ensure that automated systems and robots contribute to the financing of social protection.
In this regard, I have submitted a French citizen bill (*2) entitled “Cotisation ROBOT” on the official petition platform of the French National Assembly. This proposal has been accepted by the Committee on Social Affairs, which represents an encouraging first step towards a democratic debate on the fair redistribution of the benefits of automation. It could be symbolique que c’est un ancien écossais qui est a l’origine de cette proposition de loi.
Just as the great social achievements of the past — the eight-hour working day, the reduction from six-day to five-day weeks, paid holidays, and soon perhaps the four-day week — became global standards, I am convinced that the Robot Contribution and the four-day working week will, in time, also become a worldwide social advance.
I have followed and supported your work
for many years from France, and have long admired your commitment to social
justice and fair technological transition.
Knowing your stance on these issues — particularly your public statement in 2022 advocating a tax on robots (*3) — I take the liberty of seeking
your support for this initiative.
I would be deeply honoured to receive:
- your consideration,
as a Member of Parliament, to possibly
introduce or support a similar proposal within the House of Commons,
- your comments or
suggestions for improvement,
- and, if possible, your help in sharing this initiative among
your colleagues and networks.
Attached you will find a copy of my appeal addressed to the French media, political leaders, and trade unions, outlining the principles and objectives of this proposal et
I sincerely thank you for the attention you may give to this citizen-driven effort, and remain at your full disposal for any discussion or additional information.
